How do you determine what to photograph?

Things that are a little different, dynamic, pretty, unusual lighting, something that demonstrates emotion, and sometimes (considering that digital doesn’t cost anything to take a picture) just because I can, and I don’t always know what will work.

When you take a picture, how do you know if you captured what you want? or, did you get a good shot?

I never know until I get the image on the computer, so I can actually see what I took.  And, it’s rare that what I captured is what I end up printing.  More frequently than not what gets printed is only a portion of the original.

My mother was an amateur photographer. I asked her when I was a kid: How do you get a good picture?  Her reply was quite simple: Take a lot of them!

I like moving in close to a subject and visualize details that aren’t apparent from the usual viewing distances.

Digital dark rooms have made all the difference for me. I never took the time to learn the chemistry of developing film. But, with digital, I can play around with lots of options and, unless I hit the save button inadvertently, never lose the original. Basically no risk!

My prices are low because I’m a “one man show”! I have no employees, except once in a while when I rope in my wife to help with something.  I do all the printing, mounting, framing, matting, etc, etc. So my overhead is low and I don’t feel the need to make a killing on each item. I’d prefer to have more people enjoy my products.

Don’t let the pricing fool you. These products are quality items!  The canvas prints are coated to further increase longevity (100+ years*) and make them washable! So they do not have to be behind glass.
